Our monthly readers’ poll was once again a potpourri and here’s how you responded to questions ranging from what you consider to be the most important of the five major First Amendment freedoms to which celebrity you would LEAST like to have in your family.
When asked what is the most important First Amendment right, 78% of those responding identified freedom of speech, while none of the other four choices (religion, press, assembly and petition) got more than 8%.
You are much more mixed in rating your favorite outdoor activity. While golf (22%) was no surprise, the tie among swimming, winter sports (skiing and snowboarding) and walking—all at 15%—was a little more eye opening. Running, fishing, and camping all came in at 9%.
Also eye opening was the dead heat on whether or not the drinking age should be lowered to 18. Most in favor cited the incongruity between the draft and drinking ages, while those opposed cited the research about the under-developed state of adolescent brains.
What you would do if a key employee were accused of domestic abuse was, apparently, more perplexing. More than a third of those responding (34%) would allow the employee to continue to work, but fire that person, if convicted. One quarter would suspend without pay pending a determination in court, while 20% would suspend with pay, pending a determination. Interestingly, 14% would do nothing, with many commenting that what happens outside the office is not relevant.
Finally, if you had to have a celebrity in your family, you’d most want it NOT to be any of the Kardashians (25%). Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus tied for “second: with 18% each and  other vote getters included any of the cast members of any “Real Housewives” show, Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, Honey Boo Boo, and Perez Hilton.
