Ritz Theatre's "Cheaper by the Dozen"

04/15/08

The Ritz Theatre presents the comedy  “Cheaper by the Dozen” May  8 - June 7 at the historic Ritz Theatre, 915 White Horse Pike, Arts District, Haddon Township, NJ. The play is based on the 1948 novel by Frank Bunker Gilbreth Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey.

Frank B. Gilbreth, Jr., and his sister Ernestine Gilbreth Carey re-create their unforgettable childhood with their entrepreneurial father. Frank B. Gilbreth was a strict disciplinarian who demanded top performance from his family while enjoying his inseparable roles as husband, father, and motion study expert. This self-assured, self-made man believed that his wife Lillian’s expertise in psychology and his in motion study was the perfect combination for rearing a large family of twelve. The title comes from one of Gilbreth’s favorite jokes: it often happened that when he and his family were out driving and stopped at a red light, a pedestrian would ask “Hey, Mister! How come you got so many kids?” Gilbreth would pretend to ponder the question carefully, and then, just as the light turned green, would say “Well, they come cheaper by the dozen, you know,” and drive off.

We started with Burlington and Gloucester Counties and this month’s list focuses on the movers and shakers in Cumberland County. Next month it will be Salem County.
We want to hear from you for every list.
