Team presents Virtua president Richard P. Miller with new team jersey
Marlton, NJ – December 6, 2007 –
The junior sled hockey team South Jersey Wings of Steel played, fought and won their way through three league championships.  Now the team took on a new name – the Virtua Wings of Steel and presented a newly designed jersey to Richard P. Miller, president and CEO of Virtua Health, the organization that has sponsored and supported the team for four years.
Sled hockey, a national sport designed for disabled and injured athletes, follows the same basic rules as standard ice hockey with legal body contact and raised puck shooting – except its players sit in specially-designed sleds. Junior players consist of boys and girls, age 19 and under and adult players, age 20 and over.

Tom Brake, a plant engineer at Virtua Voorhees Hospital, coaches the Virtua Wings of Steel, a team who consistently proves that anyone can participate in an organized sport and succeed.
“All of this would not be possible without Virtua’s support,” says Brake. “We want to provide these kids with a fun activity that allows them to compete and learn about sportsmanship without breaking their parents’ budgets. Thanks to Virtua, our kids have uniforms and safety gear, and can practice and compete at the Virtua Health Flyers Skate Zone at no cost to the families.”
In addition to coaching the Virtua Wings of Steel, Tom Brake is also president of Sled Hockey America and vice-president of the Atlantic District, which consists of seven teams including the Virtua Wings of Steel.
