A NEW Shuttle Connecting Philadelphia and the Camden Waterfront!
On Tuesday, June 23, officials from Adventure Aquarium, the Battleship New Jersey and the Independence Visitor Center, along with a host of supporting organizations and other supporters, gathered on the Camden Waterfront in Camden City, NJ to officially unveil the Waterfront Connection – a new shuttle connecting Philadelphia and the Camden Waterfront.
“I am delighted to help launch this wonderful new addition to our tourism landscape because it offers a valuable service to our prospective visitors,” said New Jersey Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells, the event’s keynote speaker. “The Camden waterfront offers great venues and unique entertainment for all tastes and budgets, and the Waterfront Connection shuttle service will give more visitors the opportunity to discover and experience New Jersey’s great destinations.”
For one low price, visitors can now ride the Waterfront Connection shuttle to and from the Independence Visitor Center in Philadelphia to Adventure Aquarium and the Battleship New Jersey on the Camden Waterfront. Starting on June 24 and running through September 7, the Waterfront Connection shuttle will operate daily, making a stop at each location approximately every 30 minutes, with the first ride departing from Philadelphia’s Independence Visitor Center at 10:30 am and the last ride dropping off passengers back in Philadelphia at 6:15 pm. And with a cost of only $2.00 per person, round trip, the new Waterfront Connection shuttle is both convenient AND economical!
“Adventure Aquarium is one of several community treasures right here on the Camden Waterfront,” said Executive Director Greg Charbeneau. “Our goal in partnering with the Battleship New Jersey and the Independence Visitor Center is to create a convenient way for guests to travel over the Delaware River that is affordable, easy, and comfortable. We want to ‘bridge the gap’ between Philadelphia and the Camden Waterfront to create a larger cultural attractions destination, which in turn, gives the guests of this great region more to experience.”
The new shuttle is the result of a collaborative effort by Adventure Aquarium, the Battleship New Jersey and the Independence Visitor Center, with support from various organizations including the South Jersey Transportation Authority. The goal of the new venture is to link visitors between Philadelphia and the Camden Waterfront by making it both convenient and cost-effective to cross the bridge. Representatives from Adventure Aquarium and the Battleship New Jersey on the Camden Waterfront are also hopeful that the new Waterfront Connection Shuttle will attract some of the estimated 833,000 tourists expected to pass through Philadelphia’s Independence Visitor Center in July and August.
“The trustees, crew and volunteers of the Battleship New Jersey are excited to launch the Waterfront Connection,” said Patricia Egan Jones, Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Battleship and Surrogate for Camden County. “Now, for just $2, residents and tourists in Philadelphia have yet another convenient option to the Camden Waterfront.”
Tickets to the Waterfront Connection will also be included in the price of Adventure Aquarium’s Fish and Ducks package; a discounted combination package that allows guests to purchase tickets to both Adventure Aquarium and Ride the Ducks Philadelphia, a historic Philadelphia sightseeing tour that allows guests to travel by both land and water in one amazing vehicle. Fish and Duck tickets (including complimentary Waterfront Connection tickets) can be purchased at either Ride the Ducks™ Philadelphia (http://www.phillyducks.com) or at Adventure Aquarium's box office.
